A SCHUNK EGP alternative needs to match the exact EGP size and version, the fingers and the control system. The EPG2-26-15 is a candidate for evaluating small-part handling with Modbus RTU or I/O; it is not a confirmed mechanical or software replacement.

Exact-model comparison: EGP 25-N-S-B and EPG2-26-15

This table uses SCHUNK’s EGP 25-N-S-B, ID 310902, rather than combining ratings from different EGP variants. Force and repeatability definitions must be checked before treating the values as equivalent.

Selection item SCHUNK EGP 25-N-S-B Grippersupply EPG2-26-15
Stroke, as published 3 mm per jaw 0–26 mm stroke; confirm opening geometry with drawing
Gripping force, as published 12 N minimum and maximum 6–15 N; force-control accuracy ±10%
Repeatability, manufacturer wording Repeat accuracy (gripping): 0.02 mm Repeatability: ±0.02 mm
Communication Digital I/O Modbus RTU (RS485), I/O (NPN)
Opening / closing time 0.03 s / 0.03 s 0.3 s one way
Weight 0.12 kg 400 g
Recommended workpiece / payload rating 0.07 kg 0.3 kg recommended maximum; validate with actual fingers and motion

When this candidate needs a closer look

The specified EGP version is substantially lighter and faster in the published table. If the existing machine depends on that timing or moving mass, the EPG2-26-15 should not be treated as a substitute without redesign and testing. A larger quoted stroke or payload alone does not establish suitability.

Check the stroke definition before designing fingers

SCHUNK specifies stroke per jaw. Compare the required opening and closing positions on dimensioned drawings; do not compare the number 3 directly with a total-opening requirement. Allow room to clear the largest part and to grip the smallest part without reaching a travel stop.

Wiring and commissioning checklist

  1. Record the full EGP ordering code and controller wiring.
  2. Check mounting holes, centering, finger attachment and cable clearance using CAD.
  3. Confirm NPN input/output compatibility or plan a Modbus RTU connection; verify the register map and fault handling.
  4. Check finger length, moments, part contact pressure and cycle timing.
  5. Test part retention through the actual acceleration profile and define a power-loss response.

Is every EGP equivalent to the version above?

No. SCHUNK’s EGP series page covers other sizes and configurations. Ask for a comparison against your complete part number.

Can I keep the existing PLC program?

Do not assume so. Signal polarity, status interpretation, timing and fault recovery must be checked. See our Modbus RS485 control guide and gripper sizing calculator for initial planning.
