OnRobot RG2 Alternative: EPG2-100-50 Long-Stroke Electric Gripper

Short answer: If you need an alternative to the OnRobot RG2, the closest Grippersupply option is the EPG2-100-50: 100 mm stroke, 15–50 N rated gripping force and a 2 kg recommended payload, with Modbus RTU (RS485) and I/O control. This page is for integrators and engineers who want a second source for RG2-type pick-and-place and machine-tending jobs.

The OnRobot RG2 is a well-known flexible two-finger electric gripper for collaborative robots. We list only published values. OnRobot numbers come from the official RG2 product page (https://onrobot.com/en/products/rg2-finger-gripper) and the RG2 datasheet v1.8 (https://onrobot.com/storage/datasheets/rg2/datasheet_rg2_v1.8_en.pdf). Our numbers come from our product catalog (V1.4).

Which Grippersupply model fits an RG2 job?

Your RG2 application Closest Grippersupply option Why
Changing part sizes, long travel needed EPG2-100-50 100 mm stroke (RG2: 110 mm) and a 2 kg recommended payload
Only if your opening needs 50 mm or less AND you want IP54 or higher force EPGC-50-150 Collaborative-type, IP54, 40–150 N, 3 kg payload. Not a stroke match: 50 mm only, and its 40 N minimum is too high for delicate parts

The EPG2-100-50 is our main RG2 alternative. It is not a copy and does not match the RG2 on every spec. Check stroke, force, mounting and your robot flange before you switch.

About force values: OnRobot lists “Gripping force (adjustable) 3–40 N”. We list a rated gripping force. The figures are stated differently, so they are not directly comparable. Ask us if your job runs close to the limit.

About speed: OnRobot’s gripping time is based on 8 mm of finger movement. Our times are for a single full stroke (open or close). They are not directly comparable.

Where the RG2 is stronger

  • Longest travel: 110 mm stroke, slightly more than the EPG2-100-50 and more than double the EPGC-50-150.
  • Lighter tool: 0.78 kg vs 1 kg for both of our models.
  • Robot-side integration: OnRobot offers integrated software in the robot program, automatic TCP and payload calculation, grip detection and width measurement. We do not offer an equivalent.
  • Gentle gripping: Minimum force of 3 N (EPG2-100-50 starts at 15 N rated gripping force).
  • Form-fit payload: Up to 5 kg form-fit (our EPG2-100-50: 2 kg recommended), plus official fingertip accessories.
  • IP54 vs IP40 on the EPG2-100-50.

Where we are a practical alternative

  • Similar travel class: The EPG2-100-50 gives 100 mm stroke with a 2 kg recommended payload.
  • If 50 mm is enough: The EPGC-50-150 offers 40–150 N rated gripping force, 3 kg payload and IP54.
  • Fingers: You make the fingers to suit your own part; we can provide mounting dimensions.
  • Simple control: Modbus RTU (RS485) and I/O connect directly to most PLCs and robot controllers.
  • Buying terms: MOQ 1 piece, Lead time confirmed on quote, 12-month warranty, CAD on request.

Selection guide

  1. Stroke: Largest part width minus smallest part width, plus clearance. Above 50 mm → EPG2-100-50.
  2. Short opening only: If your opening needs 50 mm or less and you want IP54 or more force, consider the EPGC-50-150.
  3. Fingers: Design fingers for your part; ask us for the mounting dimensions.
  4. Mounting: Tell us your robot model; ask us for the mounting dimensions and CAD.

FAQ

What is the best OnRobot RG2 alternative from Grippersupply?
The EPG2-100-50. It has a 100 mm stroke, a rated gripping force of 15–50 N and a 2 kg recommended payload. The RG2 lists 110 mm, 3–40 N and 2 kg force-fit payload.

Is the EPG2-100-50 a drop-in replacement for the RG2?
No. Size, weight, mounting and control interface differ. Check the CAD file and your robot flange before you swap.

Can I compare the force numbers directly?
No. OnRobot lists an adjustable gripping force of 3–40 N. We list a rated gripping force, so the figures are not directly comparable.

When should I consider the EPGC-50-150 instead?
Only if your opening needs 50 mm or less and you want IP54 or higher force. It is IP54 with 40–150 N rated gripping force and 3 kg payload, but its stroke is 50 mm, much shorter than the RG2.

What control interface do your grippers use?
Modbus RTU (RS485) and I/O.

What is the minimum order quantity and lead time?
MOQ is 1 piece. Lead time confirmed on quote. Every gripper has a 12-month warranty.

Do you provide certificates and CAD files?
Certificates available on request. CAD files are also available on request.
